Easy Recipes for Biscuits for Cats: great snacks to prepare at home

Do you want to prepare delicious snack biscuits for your cat, to be made at home with natural ingredients? Here are our recipes.

Making homemade recipes for our pets is always fun. Especially if it means giving them healthier and more nutritious food than is commonly available on the market. So, let’s prepare excellent snacks, biscuits for our cats with these simple recipes.

Cat biscuits are very important

A reward or treat, possibly in the form of food, is always a great way to educate and improve the behavior of our cats, with great success.

Our kitty will understand that when he behaves well or does what we expect of him / her, he will receive a delightful little reward, for which he will repeat this behavior.

Since many people prefer natural food with which to feed their furry dog, however, these snacks must be of excellent quality, also for their health.

Good food products help the immune, joint and cardiovascular systems of our four-legged friend, when the diet is correct and healthy.

But cats are pretty picky pets, we know that, so they may turn down some commercial cookies altogether.

Better then prepare them at home, with our easy and healthy recipes, for the cat biscuits that we can use with our cat: what will be his favorite biscuit?

Human foods and cats

Before preparing our homemade cat cookie recipes, it is important to understand better what ingredients we will use, what their benefits are, and what we can replace them with.

These are ingredients usually present in our kitchens, or in any case easily available and cheap. Our snacks will be perfect for our kitty!

  • Vegetables: not just meat and fish for our cats! The cat’s diet must be balanced, and vegetables provide vitamins, minerals and fiber to our pets. For our cookie recipes, we will mainly use pumpkin and carrots, but could also use cooked cucumbers or peas if we want to replace them.
  • Plant-based milk: Most cats develop lactose intolerance of varying severity over time, although it doesn’t happen to everyone. Therefore, it is better to prefer vegetable milk, whether it is rice, almond or oat milk, rather than milk of animal origin.
  • Whole wheat flour: when processing whole wheat, unlike refined flour, no part is lost for whole wheat. This is why it has a higher percentage of fiber, and is more digestible for our feline friend. It is therefore better to use wholemeal flour when we prepare our recipes, whether it is oatmeal or rice (the ones with the greatest benefits), but corn or whole wheat flours are also good.
  • Tuna: Canned tuna is believed to be the best ingredient for cat recipes, but actually the opposite is true, because this fish is high in sodium and mercury. Despite this, a little fresh tuna cooked in a simple way, or a can of natural tuna, can be used every now and then because they have a good amount of protein. Just don’t overdo the quantities.
  • Olive oil: This vegetable oil provides good fats, vitamin E and antioxidants, which are great for the cat. We can replace it with linseed oil if needed.
  • Eggs: A little ground eggshell, thanks to its high mineral content, can be useful in addition to our recipes to increase the nutritional value for dogs and cats a little. The egg itself, on the other hand, is rich in proteins, vitamins, good fats and essential amino acids. We avoid giving the cat more than two eggs a week.
  • Chicken: Chicken is one of the best meats for cats because it is low in fat and has good nutritional value. We can use it more often than tuna, also because its proteins are good for cats, naturally carnivorous. The healthiest part is the chest, but we can also use the thigh and bowels (liver). It can be replaced by turkey meat.
  • Catnip: Cats love this herb, which stimulates and keeps them physically and mentally active. Best not to use too much, even if it’s not toxic.
  • Natural yogurt: probiotics contain good bacteria, great for digestion and more. While there are many cat-specific probiotic products, a natural and inexpensive choice is natural yogurt. Let’s choose one with no added sugar. We can also use it instead of milk, because it contains less lactose.
  • Fish oil: contains many omega 3 acids for our cat, and stimulates the immune system of cats. In addition, it has anti-inflammatory properties, helps circulation, balances cholesterol.

Here then for us the best recipes for those gluttons of our cats!

How to store our cat biscuits? Since they are homemade, they typically don’t last more than a week. We therefore advise not to prepare too many at once.

Better to keep them in an airtight jar, keeping them in a cool and not humid place. If it’s very hot, even in the refrigerator.
