Can my cat hate me?

We often have unconditional love for our furballs. And although this affection is frequently reciprocal, it sometimes happens that our animals are not on their plate. Thus, we can also have the impression of bothering them or that they do not appreciate us. Some animals also have a more solitary nature which makes them less approachable. However, can our cat really hate us?

Sometimes aggressive reactions

First of all, our cats can’t lie. Indeed, if they like you, they let it know and if they are not really happy, you will know it too. However, not every behavior is to be taken personally.

When you have a feline and take good care of it, bonds are forged. You then become someone important to him, whether for the emotional side, but also social without forgetting the fact that you give him food, which means a lot to them! Although they can hunt in the wild, cats also like to have their food served to them on a tray.

Some reactions can nevertheless be surprising coming from our cats. If it runs away, hides, growls/spits, or tries to attack or intimidate you when you approach him, it‘s important to ask questions. However, the questions related to these behaviors are not about affect, but rather about socialization and the problems that your little feline may have.

Problems to solve

As seen previously, it happens that one does not understand the aggressive attitude of his feline. On the other hand, if you are respectful, loving and caring towards him, there should be no such problems. This means that his reactions stem from something else and that the cat does not hate you.

If it runs away from you or hides

This attitude is generally not a good sign. This need to hide can stem from fear or worry. Try to figure out what might have happened and what might have scared your hairball off. Take the time to reassure him and make him come to you very gently so that he regains his confidence.

If it growls or spits

If it remains occasional, it could simply mean that your cat is not happy, that he wants to mark his territory or even impose his dominant status. However, it can also demonstrate discomfort or discomfort. If it growls before you even approach him, then take some time for them to get used to you and understand that you mean them no harm. If it only spits up when you touch him somewhere, that’s definitely a sign of pain. In this case, do not hesitate to contact a veterinarian to ensure the good health of your cat.

It tries to attack you

If it is really aggressive with you, try to figure out why. This can be linked to a problem of education, but also to a physical concern or even too early weaning. If not related to pain, this behavior can be resolved with time, patience and willpower.

In the end, can the cat really hate us?

Unless you are genuinely obnoxious and violent with them, cats have big hearts and it is almost impossible to imagine them hating us. However, they may still have preferences towards certain humans, just like us. Each feline is different and can develop fears or anxieties towards certain people during the socialization period. However, with a lot of gentleness and patience, these problems can recover.

Thus, when we think that our cat hates us, it is often otherwise. Their attitudes always have a rational explanation. It may also simply not appreciate one of your gestures or actions. In addition, we must not forget that it may have had bad experiences and that it needs time to adapt to be confident with you. If your pet begins to behave aggressively, watch it closely so it doesn’t get worse. Moreover, a cat may very well have no affinity with a human without hating it. In this case, it will more often play the card of ignorance and escape rather than that of confrontation.

In summary, if your cat is not showing you affection or is acting in ways that aren’t like them, it may have a health or relationship problem. Then take the time to restore the situation using positive reinforcements so that it trusts you. As you will have understood, a cat cannot really hate us if you are loving and attentive to its well-being. However, do not forget to have a regular follow-up with the veterinarian to ensure good health. In addition, behavioral changes are not to be taken lightly and it is best to seek professional advice for any problem.
