In our homes there are many foods that our beloved felines can “steal”, for their curiosity, among these foods there are beets, also known as red turnips. Let’s see below if the cat can eat beets.

Can the cat eat beets?

Beets or red turnips are often used by humans as they are a very useful food for heart health and above all it counteracts aging.

However, those who live with a cat, and use beetroot in the kitchen, often wonder if the feline can also benefit from this food, if the cat can eat beetroot.

Well yes! Beets are not toxic to cat, he can eat them without any problem. However, as we all know, felines are carnivorous animals and above all need animal proteins and not vegetables and fruit.

This does not mean that it is bad to give fruits and vegetables to the feline, but you have to be careful with the quantities. So we can give the cat beets in moderation.

Furthermore, beets are very beneficial for the health of the cat. In fact, in addition to being rich in vitamins and minerals, they also contain:

  • Betalain: a water-soluble antioxidant, which gives the turnip its red color. It is very useful for fighting cancer, for protecting the cardiovascular system of the cat and for strengthening the immune system of the cat;
  • Soluble and insoluble fiber: Both fibers are useful for cat digestion. In addition, insoluble fibers can also be useful in preventing the formation of hairballs in cats.

In addition, beets also have anti-inflammatory effects. However, before giving any human food to your four-legged friend, it is advisable to contact your veterinarian.
